More people are choosing to use credit cards with chips. They are supposed to be a safer alternative to swiping cards. Many people are frustrated with the chip cards because they sometimes make checkouts take longer. However, there is a reason that most credit card companies are choosing to switch to chips. Criminals are installing skimmers at stores, so there is a chance that your credit card information can be stolen every time that you make a purchase.

If your credit card has a chip, then you will insert it into a reader instead of swiping it. There are some places that still do not have a reader. If you use your card at a place that does not have a credit card reader, then you can just swipe it. However, this comes with risks.

The card chip helps prevent your data from being stolen. It also helps protect you from unauthorized transactions. However, if you swipe your card, then you may not get the funds back if an unauthorized transaction is made. That is why you should never swipe your card if it has a chip. If the merchant does not have a credit card reader, then you should use cash or pay with another card.
