But police do not believe his story and think it is more likely that he lost his arms in a train accident. Model Town Superintendent of Police (SP) Amara Ather told Dawn that the man had attempted a police complaint against unknown assailants for the attack, but a medical report showed that Aqeel had been maimed in a train accident by a train engine, following which he was shifted to Jinnah Hospital.

‘The circumstantial evidences do not support the claims of the victim. Apparently, it seemed that the man lost his arms in a train accident.’

Police sources also said that Masih is a drug addict, who, after an overdose found himself standing dangerously close to a an oncoming train. Faryad Bhatti, member of Minorities Advisory Council Punjab also claimed that there was no sign of forced conversion: “Much hype was created right after the incident came into notice, but the drop scene occurred immediately as Rescue 1122 shifted him to the hospital from Sher Pao Bridge near Railway Lines put back the claim of Aqeel,” he said.
