Residents of Rome are not happy. When someone disregards a revered heritage site, one is bound to lose their cool.

But for these women, it was the cool that prompted them to jump into the historic fountain in the first place. For the Romans, the Fontana dell’Acqua Paola, that dates back to the 17th century, is an extremely cherished architectural site and seeing someone defile it simply didn’t go down well with them.

The women, possibly tourists, put on their swimsuits and jumped into the fountain after the heat became too much to handle. They probably were unaware of the fact that leaping into that particular fountain could fetch them a fine of 200 Euros (Rs. 14,895), reports the Telegraph.

A local, who was enraged at this seeming obscene display of frolic, clicked the women and put their photos online. And soon the world became a witness to the Roman outrage, that didn’t agree with the women considering the legendary fountain as a swimming pool.
