It turns out women need more sleep than men due to the complexities of their brain. Here’s what Professor Jim Hornie from Loughborough University in England had to say about this finding:

“For women, poor sleep is strongly associated with high levels of psychological distress and greater feelings of hostility, depression, and anger. These feelings were not associated with the same degree of sleep disruption in men.”

2. 8 Hours? Not Necessarily…

So is it that women should get the full 8 hours of sleep, which is usually recommended, but rarely followed, for everyone? According to the professor, women’s brains are more complex and wired differently than men are, so their sleep should actually be slightly greater than the average recommended amount of sleep.
3. What makes a woman’s brain more complex?

Turns out they use their brains in a more strenuous manner. Multitasking is common and the need for recovery, then becomes greater. Sleep is the ultimate recovery activity.

4. But What About Tired Men?

Men who are heavy into decision making and multi-tasking as part of their everyday lives or jobs, they too probably need more recovery time, but, they still don’t require as much as women.
