Displaying compassion and concern for well-being of passengers, railway staff stopped a long-distance Hyderabad Deccan Express train at Bina station to help a pregnant woman, when she went into labour.

Around 30 minutes before the train was to reach the Bina railway station, Savita, 24, who was travelling from Secunderabad to New Delhi with her husband Kamta, 25, on berth number 20 of A1 coaches, experienced labour pains.

“The moment the coach attendant informed us about the pregnant woman’s condition, we swung into action. Lady doctor and other hospital staff were contacted and asked to rush to the station. All senior officials were present there. But the woman passenger gave birth to a baby boy 10 minutes before the train chugged into Bina station,”Bina station manager Mahendra Singh told TOI.

“The train does not have a stoppage at Bina, but was stopped here. The train arrived at 9.40 pm and left at 9.50 pm. The doctors attended the patient and child. Both are safe and healthy. We told Kamta his wife could be admitted to a local hospital if they want so. Since both the mother and child were safe and healthy, they felt no need for it,” Singh said.

When they were satisfied, the train was made to leave, he said.
