A month back IISc conducted a study which suggested that Bengaluru will be unlivable in next five years owing to rampant urbanisation and highly polluted lakes among many other factors. As a result, Modi government have taken serious notice of the issue and have come out with effective measures to save the dying city.

The Ministry of Environment and Forests has approved a series of measures for reducing the pollution and preservation of lakes in Bengaluru. They include:
  • 24×7 online monitoring of all Sewage Treatment Plants and lake water quality by State Pollution Control Board.

  • Restoration of lakes in a bio-diverse manner in Public-Private Partnership mode, funds from corporate houses as part of corporate-social responsibility schemes to be used for conserving and developing lakes.

All residential group with more than 20 homes and a total build-up area of 2000 sq.mtr. to install sewage treatment plants.

  • Proper management of plastic waste to ensure that it is not dumped in the lakes

  • Lake Wardens to be appointed for involvement of public in lake conservation

We applaud the actions taken by the government and hope these effective measures save Bengaluru from the clutches of becoming a historical city.
