The study included two groups of 44 overweight women who were advised on a healthy dietary regimen for 3 months. Their daily menus comprised less than 500 calories a day and were made by nutritionists. The only difference in their nutrition was that one group was asked to consume 140ml yoghurt combined with cumin powder, whereas the second group had only yoghurt, minus the spice.

When the trial period ended, the cumin group lost a total of 14 pounds as opposed to the control group. In addition, the cumin group lost 14,64% more fat than those in the control group, who lost only 4,91% fat.
