The Narendra Modi government has announced the second list of cities that would be developed as ‘Smart Cities’ under its ambitious plan to develop the country’s infrastructure.

According to the list announced by the Urban Development Ministry on Tuesday, Lucknow, Faridabad, Dharmashala, Chandigarh, Raipur, New Town Kolkata, Panaji, Ranchi, Bhagalpur, Warangal, Port Blair, Imphal, and Agartala will be developed as smart cities.
Earlier, in January the government had announced the names of 20 cities and had started the “fast track competition” for 23 cities from an equal number of states since none of the cities nominated by them figured in the first list of top 10 smart cities.
