This is an AV-8B Harrier jump jet from the US Marine Corps, piloted by Captain William Mahoney.
The Harrier, for those unfamiliar, is a jet with the capabilities for vertical takeoff and landing, in fact it’s actually designed for specifically that. One of the biggest problems with these pretty awesome machines is that the front landing gear is known to fail fairly regularly.

To kind of balance that bit out without wasting a $30 million piece of equipment or worse, was simply by putting a stool out for the nose to safely land on. As you can imagine, this takes a bit more skill and training than anything else, and Mahoney pulls it off perfectly.

But for a defense budget so high, you wouldn’t assume the government would be buying faulty equipment, especially not when it comes to the actual safety of the members serving for it.
